St. Louis rail switching partner ranks #33 with 42% two-year revenue growth

ST. LOUIS: The Prairie Line has been named #33 on the St. Louis Business Journal's 2026 Fast 50, the paper's annual ranking of the region's fastest-growing companies. The company grew revenue more than 42% over two years, and the team celebrated alongside this year's honorees at City Winery St. Louis in September.

Prairie Line's rapid growth has been driven by a revolutionary process developed for facilities where rail is a critical part of the operation.  By improving switching efficiency, reliability, and accountability, Prairie Line has delivered significant, measurable savings for customers that previously struggled with costly rail inefficiencies.

For a rail switching company, growth is not created by a marketing campaign. It is earned one facility at a time. Customers do not renew contracts, expand relationships, or recommend a provider that disrupts production or slows their operation. Every stage of Prairie Line’s growth reflects customers choosing to deepen their relationship with the company.

“This recognition belongs to our crews and to the operating process they follow,” said Aaron Broyles, president of The Prairie Line. “Our team shows up every shift, works safely, and treats each customer’s facility as if it were their own. When you deliver that level of performance consistently, customers notice — and they trust you with more of their business. We are grateful to the Business Journal and, especially, to every customer who has trusted Prairie Line to keep their freight moving.”

Where it started

The Prairie Line began in 2017 with a single customer and a strategy focused on changing the way industrial facilities manage rail operations. Today, the company moves more than 300,000 carloads annually and operates across eight states. Its FRA-certified crews are supported by a leadership team with deep Class I and short-line railroad experience, along with an operating standard of zero missed switches.

What's next

With its 10th anniversary arriving in 2027, The Prairie Line isn't slowing down. The company is hiring and continuing to build the kind of partnerships that earned this recognition in the first place.
